3 Full Day 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
5 Half Day 8:30 am - 11:30 am
Our Toddler program (18 - 36 months) is designed to instill trust in the child so they feel secure and open to new experiences. Warm, caring teachers create a safe and inviting environment filled with stimulating materials. For this age group we focus on building language development and social skills. We provide a carefully planned environment which provides toddlers the opportunity to explore freely. Giving them the tools to learn new things at the moment they are ready for them.
A central tenet of the Montessori Philosophy is independence. At this age children learn how to hang up their coats, take off their shoes and navigate their classroom independently. They learn how to use the toilet, and wash and dry their hands. Taking materials from the shelves and returning them when finished allows for both fine and gross motor work. Toddlers learn real life skills like using utensils, pouring a drink, watering plants and washing dishes. In doing so they increase their fine motor skills and build concentration, learning to persist with activities from the beginning to completion while gaining confidence in their abilities.
Early Childhood
Ages 3 to 5 years
5 Full Day 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
3 Full Day 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
Our Early Childhood program (3 - 5 years) has a mixed age group which allows for a number of ways to build community and confidence. Older, more socially advanced children become role models for the younger ones. They can share what they’ve learned with a younger child which helps to build confidence in their knowledge and abilities. Younger children enjoy learning from older children. In this environment children can build friendships based on shared interests, not just age.
The classroom is designed to highlight the different areas of learning:
Practical Life instills care for oneself and the environment. Everyday living exercises such as sweeping, pouring, buttoning, and washing. These activities build fine motor skills as well as the foundation of all future academic work.
Sensorial contains materials designed to help children refine the information obtained from the world around them. They use their senses to classify and order items in the environment.
Language starts with building vocabulary through learning to recognize and name items, animals, feelings and all things seen around them. We move on to letter recognition, learning sounds to build words and eventually reading and writing.
Math is introduced through the manipulation of hands-on materials. Children develop an understanding of concrete concepts then gradually move from experience based learning into the abstract math concepts.
Science, geography, art and music are all integrated into the environment and curriculum with specially designed materials. Art and music give children the opportunity to express themselves creatively while being exposed to great artists and musicians. In geography children not only learn the names of places but about people and cultures. Young children are natural scientists, learning about the world around them by using their whole selves. Caring for gardens and plants instills a reverence for life and an appreciation for the world around them.
